Eradicating Myopia

This article from the June 2015 issue of Science Alert explores the amazing success of ortho-K lenses (night-time lenses worn by young children) in “eradicating myopia”. The article recaps a three-year research trial of more than 300 children in Britain and elsewhere which “produced some remarkable results” according to coverage following the release of the research results.

Children in the non-control group wore ortho-K night-time contact lenses, which scientists developed to “promote the formation of healthy eye shapes while [children] sleep”. This reshaping process, referred to as orthokeratology, “involves the use of soft contact lenses that correct abnormalities in eye shape that can result in short-sightedness (aka myopia)”.
